Our Purpose
Reinventing the Piano Lesson
Traditional Music Lessons Are Outdated
Students capable of grasping the fundamental principles of reading music in a single session should not then spend years progressing one piece at a time without understanding the system behind it. True music education builds literacy and understanding from the beginning, then combines individualized instruction with team-based training to accelerate progress and inspire excellence.
We Teach for Musical Independence
True music literacy gives students the freedom to approach unfamiliar sheet music and read it independently, the same way a child who has learned to read can open a new library book without assistance. From there, the teacher’s role shifts beyond teaching notes and individual pieces toward developing musicianship, artistry, and expression.
A Diagnostic Approach
Every student begins with a comprehensive diagnostic assessment, the foundation for building an individualized learning plan. This allows us to identify specific gaps before instruction begins and address them directly, rather than moving students from song to song without a clear understanding of what they actually need.
Growing Through Teams
Our purpose is to move music education beyond the traditional model of solitary learning. At BAAM, individualized instruction is strengthened by a distinctive team-based approach that accelerates progress, deepens commitment, and inspires students to pursue excellence together.
Where We Are Headed
This method is intended to reach every child who wants to learn, wherever they may be. Together with our nonprofit partner, we work to make financial support available to students with demonstrated need. Above all, each child should leave with the skills and independence to continue learning and enjoying music throughout life.
What This Means for Every Student
- Assessment first. Every student is evaluated before an individualized learning plan is developed.
- Gaps addressed directly. A clear diagnosis allows students to strengthen missing skills without spending years repeating the same difficulties.
- Achievement earned. Music literacy is accessible to everyone, while advancement through the Amateur, Associate, and Elite Divisions is earned through commitment and progress.
- Financial support available. Through our nonprofit partner, dedicated students may receive scholarships and grants so that financial circumstance is never the limiting factor in their education.
